How the official ticket system works

The Ghibli Museum is advance-reservation only. The official English ticket page says overseas visitors can use Lawson Ticket online or select a museum-including bus tour from Sunrise Tours JTB. Tickets cannot be purchased at the museum.

The official Japanese page currently lists seven entry times—10:00 through 16:00 at hourly intervals—and says visitors should enter within one hour of the reserved time. Opening days, entry times, and rules can change, so recheck the official calendar and your confirmation before travel.

Ticket prices in 2026

The museum’s official English page currently lists these admission prices:

• Ages 19 and over: ¥1,000
• Ages 13–18: ¥700
• Ages 7–12: ¥400
• Ages 4–6: ¥100
• Ages 3 and under: free

These are museum admission prices, not a quote for a packaged tour. Recheck the official page before purchase, especially when booking for children near an age-category boundary.

Latest release timing

As verified on July 22, 2026, the next regular monthly release is scheduled by the published rule for August 10, 2026 at 10:00 JST, covering September admission. This is a calculation from the official monthly rule, not a guarantee that no special notice will change the process.

The museum introduced an additional advance lottery for July and August 2026 admission while retaining the normal general sales. That summer process shows why you should always check the museum’s news page as well as the standard ticket page.

Where to book from overseas

Start at the official English ticket page. Its Lawson Ticket link is the primary online route described for overseas visitors. Starting from the museum page reduces the risk of entering payment details on an imitation site.

This precaution is not theoretical. In March 2026, the museum published an official warning about imitation websites and identified ghibli-museum.jp and Lawson Ticket as the official purchase route. Avoid search ads, social-media sellers, and pages that merely copy the museum’s branding; open the ticket seller from the museum’s own page.

The museum also lists a Sunrise Tours JTB route that combines museum entry with a wider bus tour. It is a different product from standard museum admission, so compare the current itinerary, inclusions, date, and cancellation terms before booking.

Release time in your city

For the August 10 release shown above, the component converts one ISO timestamp into Tokyo, New York, London, and Sydney automatically. It applies the time-zone rules in effect on that date, including daylight-saving time where relevant.

Do not save a hand-written conversion indefinitely. If the official release changes, enter the new Japan time in the release planner and replace your calendar reminder.

What to prepare before sales open

• Your first, second, and third acceptable visit dates.
• A preferred entry time and at least one workable backup.
• The exact party size and age category for every visitor.
• Purchaser and visitor information requested by the current form.
• A payment method accepted by the live Lawson Ticket checkout.
• A reachable email address and a way to save the confirmation.
• The official change, cancellation, identification, and ticket-display instructions.

Do not invent form requirements from an older blog screenshot. The booking interface can change between releases.
